Small Changes Equal Weight Loss

Small changes add up. In changing your diet and exercise plan in small steps, you build successes to achieve your weight loss goal. If you undertake too much too quickly, it rarely lasts. Don't give up. Change your strategy to small steps rather than one huge leap. When you successfully incorporate one small change, move on to another. You build momentum by incorporating small changes in your life.

1. Water as your first beverage of choice. After you've consumed your morning coffee or tea to get you going for the day, drink water. Water is critical in maximizing your weight loss. You can drink flavored water for a change of pace.

2. Fresh fruit instead of juice. If you enjoy orange juice or other juices, switch to eating the real deal of the fruit. Juice packs lots of calories in a small glass and doesn't provide you a sense of satisfaction the way eating the fruit does. You'll consume less calories, enjoy the sense of eating, feel fuller from the fruit rather than the liquid, plus you'll add important fiber from eating the fruit.

3. Write it down. Carry a small notepad with you and log in every meal, bite, taste and anything that you eat. By keeping track of what you consume, it will make you think twice before eating something. If you have to write something down in a log, many times you don't want to see it in your log so you won't see it on your waist either. Writing it down can also show you exactly what you are eating. A bite or taste sometimes doesn't register with us. In a log, you become very aware of what you're doing.

4. Check your steps. Buy a pedometer and wear it every day. Health experts recommend 10,000 steps each day for maximum health. Take your first day and use it as your base number. Set your goal to get in an additional 1,000 steps per day. Keep track how many steps you have each day. You can make it a game by logging the steps you make each day.

5. Lose your taste for soda. Soda scores a big zero in weight loss. Soft drinks contain astounding amounts of sugar and sodium. Plus, they are void of nutrition and do nothing to assist in filling you up. If you must drink soft drinks, go for the diet version. Just like many other things, you acquire a taste for something and you can lose it too. By cutting out soda from your day, you'll save hundreds of calories which result in weight loss.

6. Get a team of support. You don't have to lose weight alone. There are many resources available to you. First, turn to your family and friends and request their support. You can also hire your own weight loss coach. You can work with your coach to create a program that is best for you, what you like, what you prefer, and what works best for you. You can also join an online support group. There are many people waiting to partner with you to achieve your weight loss goals.

7. Make your coffee work for you. I used to love those flavored creamers. I would joke that I added coffee to my flavored creamer. Unfortunately, I was right. It wasn't until I kept a food journal that I noticed how much I was actually consuming. The flavored creamers, whether non-fat or in any form, are full of sugar. I was consuming enough carbs to count for one-half of my day. I strategy that I incorporated is to use nonfat powdered creamer and sugar-free flavored syrups in my coffee. I returned to losing immediately upon changing this one small habit.

Are You Using a Shortcut to Weight Loss?

If you are one of the millions of people today who need to lose weight, you might have asked yourself some of these questions:

  • What is the quickest way to lose these pounds?
  • Can I lose the weight without having to workout every day?
  • Do I have enough time to exercise?
  • Will the weight come back after awhile?
  • Will I ever be able to look like I used to?

Don't depend on media advertising to answer your questions.

If exercise is considered an option for weight loss we usually want to get it done as quickly as possible. This is boring stuff to most overweight people. Regular exercise! That's why we put on the weight in the first place. We have always found it easier to neglect exercise. It is a chore!

All the ads on TV, radio, and in newsprint usually say we can lose weight fast by whatever program they are advocating. Weight loss program merchants will never say their service/product takes time to produce results. It wouldn't sell.

Each one is an illusive shortcut to weight loss.

The sad thing is that these ads always work to get us to buy in, but many of us find ourselves having to keep trying on the message of one ad to the next, and they all don't fit.

It took time to gain weight

It will take some time to undo the damage, but it can be done with permanently rewarding results.

Most of us trying to lose weight never even noticed we were getting fat until one day when we discovered that we couldn't fit into our clothes. At first it was barely noticeable. Then the mirror started telling us what we always find hard to believe - "you are getting fat."

Many of us can't even recall when that actually happened. It happened slowly. It happened largely due to the way we live our lives. Much of our weight problem today is because of our lifestyle. Our fast-pace inactivity.

What if some fad diet causes us to lose 10 pounds in as many days? Fine. Now here are some questions to consider.

  1. Are you going to continue with that diet for the rest of your life in order to keep the weight off?
  2. How does that weight loss method affect my health? Are there any side effects?
  3. Would I have eliminated the cause of my weight problem, or am I just on a fat-slim cycle?
  4. Have I done anything to the habits that led to the condition in the first place?

Sadly, most of us tend to attribute our weight and size to our genetic inheritance instead of our behavior. We can control the latter but we cannot do anything about our genetic makeup. So forget what ever "fat trait" our parents gave us. We are in charge of our habits.

With that attitude, we can avoid taking the futile shortcuts to weight loss and permanently re-program our lifestyle to a healthy way of being. This is not short, it takes time. But it sure does give good results for a long time.

Weight Loss Problems in a Progressive World

There is not a media source that does not mention the world epidemic of obesity several times per day. What is worse is that we are not living in the times of King Arthur where medieval sorcery was used many times for medicine.

No, we live in the 21st century. A progressive world that I like to reference. Yet, obesity is running rampant not just in the third world countries but in developed countries.

Just type in the words 'weight loss' and millions of site searches appear. Which one is the best? Who do you trust? That in itself has become a serious decision making process.

Those who are overweight need to continue educating yourself. Loss of weight is not automatic. One can only blame outside problems for so long. One must make a decision to take some action now and stick with it. And education will help you to make some of these tough choices a little easier.

I'm talking about education on different weight loss means such as lipo therapy, lipodissolve treatments, liposuction, weight loss diet pills of every sort imaginable and of course, changing one's eating habits which is a lifetime choice to pursue.

America's Weight Loss Problem:

Listen people, when you stop and think about it, the health of those of us living in the so called western world is directly connected to our body weight; which is a direct result of our diets and sedimentary lifestyles. I think one of the best things we can do to fix the health care mess is to take personal responsibility for our own personal well being on a daily basis; which will result in a sharp decline in the need for drugs and surgery. Wouldnt it be nice to lose weight quickly, with minimal effort or fuss? Of cause you would! I for one would love to just sit back do nothing and the weight will just fall off.

Whether its a Low Carb, Low GI Diet, A choice of diet pills or natural weight loss pills, diet shakes, or exercise equipment, weve all seen the fantastic claims people including celebrities make about losing tons of weight AND how they can show you how to do the same thing.

I can tell you right now that 99% of these people are total frauds. You may have even fallen prey to one of these scam artists, selling you their latest weight loss program. Me too!

In the past Ive brought so many of these programs that I cant even recall how many. I dont know why, but I tend to find the good in people, and I was sold by these marketing schemes time and time again, even after being scammed by another. Finally, after so many disappointments, I got FED UP. I decided to get to the bottom of this fascination we have with Weight Loss Programs and find out if there really were any LEGITIMATE programs for Weight Loss.

Legitimate as in not only dealing with LOSING WEIGHT but also what caused the Weight Gain in the first place.

The American Heart Association has several tips to that helps guide you to identify a Fad Diet or Program if it is recommended.

Magic or miracle foods that burn fat. Foods dont burn fat they create fat when we eat more than we need.

Bizarre quantities of only one food or type of food such as eating only cabbage or tomatoes. These foods are fine as part of an overall healthy diet, but eating large quantities of them could lead to unpleasant side effects.

Rigid Menus. Many diets set out a very limited selection of foods to be eaten at a specific time and day, exactly as written. Often these limited diets dont address the widely varied taste preferences of our diverse population.

Specific food combinations. Some foods taste good together, like the classic soup and sandwich, but theres no scientific evidence that eating foods in certain sequences or combinations has any medical benefit.

Rapid weight loss of more than two pounds a week.

No warning given to people with diabetes or high blood pressure to seek advice from the physician or healthcare provider. Some fad diets could raise blood pressure or blood glucose even if you loss weight.
